If you’re a fashion lover then you’re in luck! We’ve got a special sneak peak from behind the scenes of the Vertigo Paris line. Tinsel Town or Bust caught up with the lovely Alyssa Accardo who lives, breathes and eats NYC fashion. Read on to find out all the juicy info about the sexy clothing line.
Urban Popp: Tell Us about yourself.
Alyssa: Well… I’ve been living in NYC for a little over a year now and I’m still alive so that’s good. I graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Visual Arts and Theatre degree. I’ve been going on auditions and taking so many acting classes while still pursing a job in the fashion industry. I love hanging out with friends and going out on adventures in the city.
Urban Popp: What can you tell us about the Vertigo Paris line?
Urban Popp: Vertigo Paris is a hip and trendy clothing line that originated in Paris a long time ago. It came to the US in 1985, starting off in LA and then shortly after NY. The collection is aimed towards the young professional 20 year olds to as far as 50 year olds. It can fit and look flattering on any shape and size.
Urban Popp: What do you do at the trade shows?
Alyssa: It’s very different to my other fashion job as a stylist assistant. I started off at the intermezzo trade show, where I actively sell our line to buyers from boutiques and department stores. It was a little intimidating at first but after a few hours I was confident about the line. I worked at the show for three days where then I was offered a part time job in their showroom, where I assist with prepping rooms for meetings and cataloging samples.
Urban Popp: How was it working at the Intermezzo fashion show?
Alyssa: It was pretty intimidating at first. I wasn’t really trained. I was just thrown in and learned about the line and the company as I went along. I thought it was interesting to have conversations with different buyers and hearing their opinions about the line. I saw what was most popular and what wasn’t doing so well.
Urban Popp: What’s your favorite piece from that line?
Alyssa: Well that’s a tough question because I really do love the whole line. Right now going into fall and winter we have a lot of big chunky sweaters and knits. Knits are going to be big this fall and we have everything from big open sweaters to long knit dresses. Even though I love summer, I’m excited to start wearing warm fluffy sweaters again.
Tinsel Town: What’s your favorite part about the fashion world?
Alyssa: My favorite part of the fashion world is the ability to express oneself without even saying a word.
Urban Popp: What’s your favorite fashion?
Alyssa: I’m a sucker for accessories; sometimes I get a little too carried away. I love how a whole outfit can change just from the sparkly earrings you throw on or the big wool scarf you decide to wear. Being in New York City, sometimes I make plans for after work and there’s just no time to go home and get changed from my work clothes. Instead of carrying a huge bag with a whole new outfit, you can just throw on a big loud necklace to dress up the solid tailored dress you wore to work. Or throw on those cute strap sandals with big bangles on your wrist for happy hour. It’s defiantly saved me a lot of time and a sore shoulder.
Urban Popp: What’s your favorite clothing line?
Alyssa: My favorite clothing line is Free People. The name alone really explains the line to the tee. Its very out there; flowing dresses paired with lace body suits and ripped up jeans. It’s very hip and defiantly geared towards our generation. For now I would say that is my style.
Tinsel Town: Do you have an advice for our generation of fashionistas?
Alyssa: My advice to our generation of fashionistas is to just be yourself. Don’t dress a certain way just because some magazine editor is telling you what is trending this season. Fashion is all about personal style. There is no right or wrong, break the rules and be free to do what you want because no one can tell you otherwise.
Urban Popp: Anything else you’d like to add about fashion or yourself?
Alyssa: Fashion has always been a passion of mine. Growing up I was always very shy but I was never afraid to go all out with my choice of clothing. I wanted people to notice me back then, but now I don’t care what people think or say. I wear what I want to wear. Being in the fashion world you get tied down with designer this or designer that or what is trending and what is SOOO last year. As for me, I know the trends but I never follow them. I don’t believe in trends. I believe in personal style and that’s something you cant learn.
